Dog Walking in Henrico County, VA

Tuckered Out Dog Walking is based in Lakeside (23228), right in the heart of Henrico County. This is home turf. When we say we serve western Henrico, we mean we live here, drive these streets daily, and know which parks allow dogs off-leash and which paths flood after rain.

Our service area covers the Lakeside, Willow Lawn, Libbie Mill, Bellevue, and Ginter Park, including zip codes 23228, 23227, and 23230. If your dog is home alone while you’re at the office, Tuckered Out fills that midday gap with a professional, insured walker who shows up on time and treats your dog like family.

Existing clients can book same-day with a 2-hour turnaround. That means a coverage gap at 9 a.m. doesn’t have to mean a miserable afternoon for your dog.

Why Your Henrico Dog Needs More Than a Big Yard

Here’s the suburban paradox: Henrico households tend to have more space than their Richmond city counterparts, bigger yards, quieter streets, less density. And yet dogs in Henrico often spend 8 to 10 hours a day alone.

That’s because the same features that make western Henrico appealing, the commuter corridors to Laurel, Parham Road business parks, and downtown Richmond, also mean two-income households leaving early and coming back late. A yard is an amenity, not a walk.

Dogs need locomotion, scent exposure, and time with a person. A fenced backyard gives them a place to pace. A walk gives them a reason to move. The two aren’t interchangeable.

A few things we hear from Henrico pet parents regularly:

Parks, Trails, and Walking Routes Across Henrico

One of the advantages of working with a local team is that we already know where to take your dog and why. Here are the parks we use regularly across our Henrico service area.

Bryan Park

Bryan Park (4308 Hermitage Rd, 23227) is Lakeside’s go-to at 262 acres. It has open grassy fields and wooded trail options that change character through the seasons. One note: dogs are not permitted inside the 17-acre Azalea Gardens section, so we route around it.

Three Lakes Park (400 Sausiluta Dr, 23227) is 1.3 miles of leashed trail terrain in Henrico County, about a mile north of the Northside corridor. It’s free and calm, better suited for dogs who prefer quieter environments over busier dog parks. It works well as a field trip destination for clients in Chamberlayne or the northern end of the service area.

Crump Park (3400 Mountain Rd, 23060) is one of our favorite options for dogs who enjoy a balanced outing with both open space and quieter wooded trails. The park’s walking paths wind through shaded forest areas, open fields, and around small ponds, creating plenty of opportunities for sniffing, decompression, and sensory enrichment along the way. On-leash and generally less overstimulating than busier parks, it’s a great fit for dogs who benefit from a calmer adventure while still getting lots of variety and mental engagement.

Libbie Mill Nature Trail is a 3km loop built into the 90-acre Libbie Mill development, connecting to Libbie Lake. It is designed for daily use, and dogs who live in the community use it that way.

Libbie Mill Dog Park is on-site and purpose-built, 6,200 square feet of fenced space with separate large and small dog sections. Confirmed dimensions as of 2020.

Our spoke pages for West End, Tuckahoe, and Lakeside go deeper into neighborhood-specific routes and what dogs tend to encounter in each area.

Neighborhoods We Serve in West End Henrico

Our western Henrico coverage breaks into five neighborhoods, each with its own character and its own page with more detail.

Lakeside

Lakeside is our home base. Bryan Park is practically in our backyard, and Lakeside Avenue has a community character that fits our approach. We know the streets here better than anywhere.

Willow Lawn

Willow Lawn sits on the city/county border, mixing mid-century residential blocks with the 5100 Monument Avenue high-rise condominiums. BluePearl 24-hour veterinary care is nearby, which matters when something happens outside business hours.

Libbie Mill

Libbie Mill is a purpose-built walkable community in Henrico County with the nature trail, on-site dog park, and no-breed-restriction apartment buildings built in from the start. It draws residents specifically because of its dog-friendly design.

Bellevue

Bellevue sits directly north of Bryan Park, a family-oriented neighborhood centered on MacArthur Avenue. The housing is well-maintained Craftsman and bungalow stock, and Porchella, Bellevue’s annual porch festival, reflects the community character. Bryan Park access is a few blocks from most addresses.

Ginter Park

Ginter Park is on the National Register of Historic Places, named for philanthropist Lewis Ginter, and distinguished by some of the grander homes in the Northside corridor. The housing scale and the quiet residential character make it one of the more pleasant daily walking environments on our routes.

Why Henrico Pet Parents Choose Tuckered Out

There are a lot of dog walkers in the Richmond area. Here’s what makes Tuckered Out different.

We’re based here. Not a Richmond city service stretching into the suburbs, not a franchise with a zip code map and a contractor network. We’re in Lakeside, and our walkers drive Henrico roads every day. That familiarity shows in how we handle logistics and how quickly we can respond.

Our walkers are W-2 employees, not independent contractors. That distinction matters because workers’ compensation coverage protects your home if something goes wrong on a visit. Gig-economy apps put that liability on you.

Every walker on our team is trained in Fear Free principles, which means force-free handling, positive reinforcement only, and training grounded in current behavioral science. We don’t use cues that cause stress or suppress behavior through discomfort.

Getting hired at Tuckered Out is genuinely difficult. We reject roughly 99.5% of applicants. The ones who make it through complete a 24-hour training program that includes Pet Pro Hero CPR and First Aid certification, body language and stress signal training, and supervised field training before they walk a client’s dog independently.

Same-day booking is available for existing clients with a 2-hour turnaround. Life doesn’t always run on a weekly schedule, and we’re built to flex.

We also run an ongoing shelter program with the Richmond Animal Care and Control Center. To date, our walkers have completed over 300 outings with 248 shelter dogs, and 98% of those dogs were adopted within 90 days. It’s not marketing. It’s what we do in the community.
