Dog Walking in Lakeside, Richmond VA

Tuckered Out is based right here in Lakeside. When our walkers head out each morning, they start from the same neighborhood you live in. When they finish, they come back here. That’s not a marketing point; it’s just how our day works.

For Lakeside residents, that proximity matters. You’re not waiting on someone dispatched from Chesterfield or the Short Pump. You’re getting a walker who knows these blocks, recognizes the regulars, and can be at your door on short notice without building in 30 minutes of drive time each way. Lakeside is a compact, walkable neighborhood: 1950s Cape Cods and bungalows on tree-lined streets, a lively commercial strip on Lakeside Avenue, and Bryan Park a few blocks south. It’s the kind of neighborhood that was designed for foot traffic, and your dog deserves to experience it.

Walking Dogs Through Lakeside

Lakeside’s housing stock is mostly mid-century: Cape Cods, bungalows, and cottages built in the 1940s through 1960s. The streets are quiet and residential, with a mature tree canopy that makes warm-day walks genuinely comfortable. The neighborhood sits in Henrico County but identifies strongly with Richmond’s Northside, and that shows in its mix of longtime homeowners, younger renters, and working professionals (median age 35).

The walkability here is a real advantage for your dog. Walkers can head out directly from your front door on Dumbarton Rd, Hermitage Rd, or any of the side streets off Lakeside Avenue without driving to a park first. That’s not the case in every Richmond neighborhood.

Lakeside is also in active transition. Henrico County launched a “Garden District” planning initiative (charrette, August 2025) to better connect Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and Bryan Park through a greener Lakeside Avenue corridor. The long-term vision makes an already walkable neighborhood even more inviting for people and dogs alike.

Bryan Park:
Lakeside’s Backyard

Bryan Park is the defining outdoor space for Lakeside dog people, and at 262 acres, it more than earns that status. The park sits at 4308 Hermitage Rd, just south of the neighborhood, and includes wooded trails, ponds, meadows, gentle hills, and a stream network that gives dogs a genuinely varied sensory experience on every visit. Throughout the park, leashed dogs are welcome on trails.

One important note: dogs are not permitted inside the 17-acre Azalea Gardens section of Bryan Park. It’s a clearly signed boundary, but easy to miss if you don’t know to look for it.

Our walkers know Bryan Park well. They know which entrances work best, which trails stay shaded at midday, and exactly where the Azalea Gardens boundary starts. For Lakeside addresses close enough to walk to Hermitage Rd, field trips to Bryan Park are a natural fit. For addresses where driving makes more sense, we load up and make the trip.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is the other major landmark at the north end of Lakeside, at 1800 Lakeside Ave. It’s a beautiful property and an important part of what makes this neighborhood feel distinctive. Dogs generally aren’t permitted inside, except during Fidos After Five twice per month, so it’s not a walking destination, but it’s worth knowing as a neighbor.

Dog-Friendly Spots
in Lakeside

Lakeside Avenue has developed into a genuine neighborhood commercial strip with a few spots worth knowing for dog-friendly outings.

Final Gravity Brewing is one of the area’s primary gathering spots, with a dog-friendly patio that makes it a natural stop for walkers.

Stir Crazy Cafe is a smaller option with a few outdoor tables and a bench; a good low-key stop for a quick sit with a coffee and a calm dog.

The Farmers Market at Bryan Park runs seasonally outdoors and welcomes dogs, making it a reliable weekend destination when the market is open.

Because we’re based in Lakeside, our walkers are never far. Same-day availability is especially strong here. When a recurring client needs a last-minute add or something comes up mid-day, Lakeside is almost always the fastest we can respond.

Field trips to Bryan Park are among the most popular add-ons for Lakeside clients. The park is close, the trails are varied, and for dogs who need more than a neighborhood loop, it’s a clear upgrade.

Your Neighbors’ Dog Walker

There’s something different about hiring a dog walker who lives and works in your neighborhood rather than one who drives in from across town. We’re already here in Lakeside, which means same-day service is more realistic, response times are faster, and your dog isn’t racking up time in transit.

Our walkers know these specific blocks: which routes are shadiest at noon, which intersections get heavier traffic, which Bryan Park entrances are most convenient from different parts of Lakeside. That kind of local knowledge only comes from walking these streets regularly, not from a map app.

Lakeside is also a neighborhood where word-of-mouth travels fast. On a residential block like Dumbarton Rd or Hermitage Rd, people notice who’s walking whose dog. That’s accountability built into the geography.

That local presence pairs with the professional infrastructure behind every walk. Our walkers are W-2 employees with workers’ compensation coverage, not independent contractors or gig workers. Every person on the team is Fear Free Certified and completed our 24-hour training program, including Pet Pro Hero CPR and First Aid certification, before walking their first client’s dog solo. We reject roughly 99.5% of applicants because the bar has to be that high when you’re trusting someone with your home and your dog. We also run an ongoing shelter program with the Richmond Animal Care and Control Center: over 300 outings, 248 dogs walked, and 98% of those dogs adopted within 90 days.

Just mention it at your Meet & Greet and we’ll figure out the logistics.

Yes. We walk dogs in houses, apartments, and condos throughout Lakeside. We handle building access, leash-up in hallways, elevator routines, and anything else that comes with multi-unit buildings. Just share the access details (codes, fobs, door instructions) during your Meet & Greet and we take it from there.
