Dog Walking in Randolph, Richmond VA

Tuckered Out Dog Walking is based in Lakeside (23228), right in the heart of Henrico County. This is home turf. When we say we serve western Henrico, we mean we live here, drive these streets daily, and know which parks allow dogs off-leash and which paths flood after rain.

Our service area covers the Lakeside, Willow Lawn, Libbie Mill, Bellevue, and Ginter Park, including zip codes 23228, 23227, and 23230. If your dog is home alone while you’re at the office, Tuckered Out fills that midday gap with a professional, insured walker who shows up on time and treats your dog like family.

Existing clients can book same-day with a 2-hour turnaround. That means a coverage gap at 9 a.m. doesn’t have to mean a miserable afternoon for your dog.

A Dog-Friendly Neighborhood With Professional Walking Needs

Randolph’s demographics are an honest picture of who needs a professional dog walker. About 66% of households are renter-occupied. The median age is 30. Many residents are young professionals, VCU-affiliated, or in healthcare, working schedules that don’t align with midday walks. The housing stock, brick rows and apartments built in the 1940s through 1970s, largely means no backyard. Dogs in Randolph need to go outside to go outside.

The neighborhood also has real community character. The annual Juneteenth celebration, the Randolph Community Center, block association activity: these are the networks where word-of-mouth about dog walkers travels. When Randolph dog people find something they trust, they tell each other.

The quieter blocks are a genuine advantage for some dogs. Randolph’s residential streets are calmer than The Fan’s busier corridors. For dogs that get overstimulated by heavy foot traffic or unpredictable urban noise, the lower-key environment of streets like S. Meadow, Bainbridge, and the blocks around Petronius Jones Park makes for walks that are easier to manage and more enjoyable for the dog. Idle Hands Bread Company on W. Cary Street gives the neighborhood a local anchor, and the surrounding blocks are walkable without the edge of a higher-traffic corridor.

Parks, Trails, and Walking Routes in Randolph

Randolph is hemmed in by some of Richmond’s best green space, with solid in-neighborhood options too.

Byrd Park

Byrd Park runs right along Randolph’s western border. At 287 acres, there’s room to roam: wooded paths, open meadows, ponds, and quiet stretches that give dogs a varied sensory experience. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout most of the park. Two areas are off-limits for dogs: the Vitacourse trail and Fountain Lake. Our walkers know where those boundaries are.

Barker Field Dog Park is inside Byrd Park at 600 S. Blvd, walkable from Randolph’s western streets. There are two fenced sections (one for large dogs, one for smaller breeds), water stations, and waste bag stations. The park is open sunrise to sunset. Off-leash areas may have a spay/neuter requirement; check current rules before the first visit. For Randolph dogs, Barker Field is as close to a dedicated off-leash destination as you’ll find in this part of Richmond. It’s a popular off-leash amenity for Randolph pet parents.

Maymont borders Randolph to the southwest and looks like an obvious walking destination on a map. It isn’t. Pets are not permitted at Maymont, except ADA service dogs. We don’t take dogs there, and we flag this for any Randolph client who asks.

Petronius S. Jones Park is a genuine in-neighborhood stop with a playground, basketball courts, a jogging trail, and an informational tree walk. It’s a solid on-leash walking destination that keeps walks interesting without leaving Randolph’s streets.

Thomas Square Park is a small pocket park with shade trees and seating areas. It’s the kind of spot that’s good for an enrichment-style walk where the goal is sniffing and observing rather than covering distance.

For field trips with more terrain, the James River Park System is accessible from Randolph and welcomes leashed dogs throughout. Our walkers plan routes based on each dog’s energy level and preferences.

Your Dog Walker in Randolph

Our walkers know Randolph’s blocks. They know which streets run quieter in the late morning, which routes stay shadier in summer, and how to route through Byrd Park efficiently within a field trip window. That’s local knowledge that only comes from walking these routes regularly.

Tuckered Out walkers are W-2 employees with workers’ compensation coverage. That matters: if an independent contractor is injured during a walk on your property, your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance may be on the hook. With W-2 employees covered under a company policy, that risk doesn’t fall on you.

Every walker on our team is Fear Free Certified and uses force-free, positive reinforcement methods on every walk. Dogs learn through cues, not corrections. If your dog is reactive or needs a calmer environment to succeed, Randolph’s quieter streets are genuinely a better fit than busier corridors, and our walkers are trained in body language reading to keep walks positive and manageable.

We reject roughly 99.5% of applicants. The ones who join complete a 24-hour training program: orientation, Pet Pro Hero CPR and First Aid certification, body language modules, a training manual assessment, supervised field training with a team lead, and a reviewed solo shift before they ever walk a client’s dog independently. Ongoing education continues through Pet Sitters International.

We were named a CommunityVotes Richmond 2025 Winner. We also run a shelter program with the Richmond Animal Care and Control Center: over 300 outings, 248 dogs, and a 98% adoption rate within 90 days.
