Dog Walking in Willow Lawn, Richmond VA

Willow Lawn sits on the border between Richmond City and Henrico County, a detail that surprises some folks who assume the whole neighborhood falls on one side of the line. Zip codes 23226 and 23230 both cover the area, and if you live here, you already know that Willow Lawn is quieter and more residential than its location along West Broad Street might suggest. The streets running south off the boulevard are tree-lined, low traffic, and genuinely pleasant to walk on any day of the week.

Tuckered Out Dog Walking serves Willow Lawn Monday through Friday. Whether you live in a mid-century brick house with a backyard on Horsepen Road or on one of the upper floors of the 5100 Monument Avenue condos, we can be there.

Why Willow Lawn Dogs Need Professional Walking

Willow Lawn has a split personality when it comes to dog walking needs, and it’s one of the things that makes this neighborhood interesting to serve.
About 74% of homes here are owner-occupied, mostly mid-century single-family with yards. These are the households where the dog has somewhere to go in the morning and evening, but nobody home between 8am and 5pm, five days a week. The yard keeps the dog from going stir-crazy overnight, but a midday walk handles the energy gap that a yard alone can’t fill.
Then there’s 5100 Monument Avenue, a 12-story building with 184 condo units and no yards. For those residents, every bathroom break and every enrichment outing depends on a structured walk. There’s no “just let them out back” option. A consistent Monday-through-Friday walker isn’t a convenience, it’s the whole system.
Both situations call for reliability. The household median income here runs around $112K, and the dog people in Willow Lawn tend to be professionals who make considered choices about who handles their animals. They’re not shopping by price alone, and they’re not looking for someone who might not show.

Walking Willow Lawn

The backbone of any dog walk in Willow Lawn is the residential street grid south of West Broad. The blocks between Monument Avenue and the Boulevard are mostly low-cut sidewalks, mature trees, and light through-traffic. These are the kind of streets that reward a thorough 40-minute route without ever feeling monotonous.

Monument Avenue

Monument Avenue forms the southern edge of the neighborhood, and its wide grassy median is excellent for dogs who want to move. The shaded corridor runs east-west and stays comfortable well into summer. For condo residents at 5100 Monument, it’s the most convenient daily walking infrastructure outside the building, and our walkers know the median routing well.

Byrd Park (about 1.5 miles south) is 287 acres with Barker Field dog park inside. Dogs are welcome on leash throughout most of the park. Note that the Vitacourse trail and Fountain Lake areas exclude dogs, so field trips stay on the main trails. It’s a solid outing for a dog who needs to stretch out.

Bryan Park is 262 acres of wooded trail, about 2 miles from Willow Lawn. There are 1.9 miles of on-leash trails winding through the tree canopy. Dogs are not permitted in the 17-acre Azalea Gardens section, but the rest of the park is accessible. Field trips here tend to run long because the trail variety keeps dogs genuinely engaged. One thing note: dogs are not permitted inside the 17-acre Azalea Gardens section, so we route around it.

Deep Run Park in Henrico is another option for field trips, with open green space and trails that suit most dogs.

If you’ve ever seen a blue BluePearl sign on West Broad, you know where the nearest 24-hour emergency vet is. BluePearl Pet Hospital is right in the neighborhood, which is the kind of pet infrastructure detail that becomes very important on very short notice.

Dog Walking Services and Pricing in Willow Lawn

Recurring (priority pricing) applies when visits are scheduled at least once per week. On-demand visits are $5 more. For most single-family home clients in Willow Lawn, the 40-minute walk covers the residential street grid comfortably. For 5100 Monument condo residents, a 60-minute walk or a field trip a few days per week handles the elevated exercise need that comes without outdoor space.

Field trips to Byrd Park, Bryan Park, or Deep Run typically run the $53-$73 recurring rate and are popular with clients who want a meaningful outing a couple times a week while daily walks cover the rest.

Existing clients can book same-day with a two-hour turnaround when there’s schedule availability. New clients start with a Meet & Greet, with a first walk the following day.

Tuckered Out walkers are W-2 employees with workers’ compensation coverage. That distinction matters practically: if a contractor gets hurt in a client’s home or building, the homeowner’s insurance is typically on the hook. W-2 employees covered by a company workers’ comp policy remove that exposure from your plate entirely.

Every walker completes a 24-hour training program before their first solo visit. That’s two hours of orientation, six hours of online coursework including Pet Pro Hero CPR and First Aid certification, twelve hours of supervised field training alongside an experienced team lead, and a four-hour solo shift with a formal review before going independent. Check-ins continue at 30, 90, 180, and 365 days.

Austin Tuck, who founded Tuckered Out, is Fear Free Certified, and that philosophy runs through everything the team does. Force-free handling, cue-based interactions, no aversive tools. The team holds PSI membership through Pet Sitters International for ongoing continuing education.

Fewer than half a percent of walker applicants are hired. The Willow Lawn clients who use us tend to be thoughtful about that kind of thing, and we think they should be.

Tuckered Out was named CommunityVotes Richmond 2025 Winner by Richmond readers. That recognition comes from existing clients across the service area, including neighborhoods like this one.

One additional note for Willow Lawn clients: we serve both sides of the city/county line. Whether your address falls in Richmond City or Henrico County, you’re in our service area. The border doesn’t change anything about how we book or serve you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you serve both the Richmond City and Henrico County sides of Willow Lawn?

Yes. Willow Lawn straddles the border, and we serve the whole neighborhood regardless of which side your address falls on. ZIP codes 23226 and 23230 are both active service area zip codes for us.

Yes. We walk from condos, apartments, and any residential unit type throughout the neighborhood. Your walker handles building entry, leashing up, the walk, and the return. If your building has a specific entry or access process, we confirm that during the Meet & Greet so the first walk goes smoothly.

Recurring walks (priority pricing, scheduled at least once per week) run $29 for 20 minutes, $39 for 40 minutes, and $49 for 60 minutes. On-demand visits are $5 more per service. Field trips to Byrd Park, Bryan Park, or Deep Run run $53-$73 recurring, $58-$78 on-demand.

Most field trips go to Byrd Park, Bryan Park, or Deep Run Park in Henrico. All three are a short drive. We avoid restricted areas: the Vitacourse trail and Fountain Lake areas at Byrd Park, and the Azalea Gardens section at Bryan Park.
