Dog Walks

Dog Walking Prices in Richmond, VA

Your dog has been waiting since you left this morning. That’s a long time to hold it, a long time to burn off energy, a long time to just sit there staring at the door.

A Tuckered Out walk isn’t a bathroom break you check off your list. It’s a real outing, handled by a real professional, with the kind of care your pup deserves every single time.

Here’s what that looks like, and what it costs.

What a Tuckered Out Dog Looks Like

Every walk starts before your walker even arrives. Your pup’s preferences, quirks, and routine are already in our system from your Meet & Greet, so there’s no guessing, no cold introductions, and no wasted time figuring out what your dog needs.

Our professional dog walkers are trained in Fear Free methods on every outing. That means we’re paying attention to your dog’s body language throughout, keeping stress low, and making the whole experience something they actually look forward to. We’re not just moving a dog from point A to point B.

After every walk, you get a report card through our client app: photos from the outing, timestamps, a written update on how it went, and quick-glance icons covering the essentials (yes, including whether they pooped). You’ll know exactly how your dog’s afternoon went before you even get home.

Flexible scheduling means walks fit your day, not the other way around. We serve neighborhoods across Richmond and Henrico County, including the Fan, Scott’s Addition, Lakeside, and the West End, with consistent availability Monday through Friday.

Sound Familiar?

You’re in the office all day

That midday dog walk isn’t a luxury, it’s the difference between a calm dog and a dog who’s been holding it for nine hours. We handle the lunchtime dog walking so you can stay focused on your work.

A barking dog during a critical Zoom call is its own kind of stressful. A midday walk gets them out of the house so you can focus on the deep-work block, the client call, or the presentation without the barks, the pacing, or the nudges at your knee. You get a quiet hour. Your dog gets real movement. Everyone wins.

Puppies have a short window to learn that new sounds, surfaces, and people are safe. Regular walks hit that window at the right time. Because your puppy will meet multiple members of our team across their visits, they get comfortable with new people early, which makes vet visits, grooming appointments, and unfamiliar guests feel less scary later on. Our walkers also support your potty and crate training routines during the day, so you come home to progress, not accidents and a shredded throw pillow.

Older dogs still need to move, but they need someone paying attention to how they’re moving. Our walkers notice the details: a slight limp, slower pace, more sniffing and less trotting. We adjust every walk to match where your dog is today.

Last-minute schedule change? We offer same-day dog walking with as little as 2 hours notice. No need to scramble.

Dog Walking Pricing & Packages

Dog walking rates in Richmond, VA range from $29 to $54 per walk depending on duration and booking type. A 20-minute walk covers the basics for most dogs. A 40-minute walk is a solid workout. Most Richmond pet parents choose recurring walks. Book once a week or more and you get priority pricing, reserved slots, and a consistent routine your dog will actually notice. On-demand walks are available with as little as 2 hours notice for existing clients, at a modest $5 more per walk.

Recurring clients receive priority scheduling and reserved walk slots. On-demand walks are $5 more per visit. Same-day bookings include an additional $10 last-minute fee. All on-demand and same-day walks are subject to walker availability.

Specialty Packages

Some dogs have specific needs that go beyond a single daily walk. These packages are built around those needs.

  • Senior Comfort Care $58

(20-min morning walk + afternoon enrichment visit)

For senior dogs who need more than mobility support. This package pairs a morning walk with an afternoon visit to administer medications, check in on how they’re doing, and give them some company at the end of the day.

  • Puppy Socialization $78

(2 walks per day, 40 minutes each)

Puppies between 8 and 16 weeks are in the most critical socialization window of their lives. Two daily walks means twice the exposure: new smells, new sounds, new people, new surfaces. We keep the pace relaxed and the experience positive, so your pup builds confidence instead of anxiety.

  • Puppy Potty Training $97

(20-min morning walk, 40-min midday walk, 20-min afternoon walk)

Three scheduled visits per day builds the foundation your puppy needs to learn the routine. Regular, consistent outings at predictable times are one of the most effective things you can do during the potty training phase. We handle the schedule so you can handle the rest.

  • Rescue Dog Adventure $102

    (90-min trail walk + 20-min enrichment visit)

Rescue dogs often come with a lot to process. A longer trail walk followed by low-key enrichment time lets them decompress at their own pace, build confidence in new environments, and get the kind of positive experience that helps them settle into their new life.

  • Working Dog Adventure $177

(60-min trail walk + Zoom Room agility session)

For the dog who needs a real outlet. A trail walk followed by time in our Zoom Room indoor agility gym partnership burns the kind of energy that a neighborhood walk alone won’t touch. Ideal for high-drive breeds or dogs with a lot of physical and mental energy to spend.

How to Get Started

Step 1: Schedule Your Meet & Greet

Before any walk happens, a Tuckered Out professional dog walker comes to you. We meet your dog on their home turf, learn their routine, go over any specific needs, and make sure everyone is comfortable. A small deposit holds your spot and is applied as a credit toward your first walk.

Step 2: We Build The Plan

Your dog’s preferences, quirks, schedule, and any health considerations go into their profile in our client app. Every walker on your team has access to this profile before they arrive, so nothing gets lost between visits.

Step 3: Book and Go

Walks are scheduled and managed through our client app. You can request walks, see photos and report cards, and communicate with your team all in one place. Your Meet & Greet deposit is applied as a credit toward your first walk.

Your Walkers: Insured, Certified, Background Checked

The person walking your dog isn’t someone who signed up on a gig app last week. Every Tuckered Out walker completes a 24-hour training program before their first solo walk. That includes a 2-hour orientation, 6 hours of online modules (Pet First Aid and CPR certification through Pet Pro Hero, dog body language and handling training, and a review of our training manual with a quiz), 12 hours of supervised field training alongside an experienced team lead, and a 4-hour evaluated solo shift. By the time they’re alone with your dog, they’ve already handled hundreds of real situations. Every walker also completes weekly continuing education through Pet Sitters International, with formal performance reviews at 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, and annually.

Our full team of 10+ professional dog walkers is background checked, insured, bonded, and trained in Fear Free methods. Tuckered Out’s founder, Austin Tuck, completed the Fear Free Professional Pet Sitter certification and built those principles into every part of the training manual and daily operations. That means every walker is trained to recognize and reduce fear, anxiety, and stress in the animals they care for. Every walker on the team is a W-2 employee, not an independent contractor. That means direct oversight, consistent training standards, and real accountability. Tuckered Out also partners with Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC), the city’s municipal shelter, with over 300 shelter outings completed and a 98% adoption rate within 90 days among the dogs we’ve walked there.

Tuckered Out is fully insured and bonded. If something unexpected happens during a walk, you’re protected. That’s not something you can count on with independent walkers found through gig apps, and it’s worth knowing before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have the same walker every time?

Tuckered Out uses a team model, which means you may have different team members at different visits. Every walker reviews your dog’s profile in our client app before arriving, including preferences, quirks, routine, health notes, and handling cues. Your Meet & Greet is with one team member, but our training standards, care protocols, and detailed walk notes are shared across the whole team. That’s how your dog gets consistency without needing to meet every walker in person. No cold starts, no anxious adjustments.

Yes. Once you’ve completed your Meet & Greet and onboarded into our system, you can book a walk with as little as 2 hours notice through the client app. New to Tuckered Out? We offer same-day Meet & Greets, and your first walk can be booked as early as the next day. If you have a last-minute schedule change or a day that doesn’t go as planned, we can usually cover it.

We schedule walks in 2-hour windows: 10am-12pm, 12pm-2pm, or 2pm-4pm. You choose the window that fits your day. This gives us the flexibility to serve the full Richmond and Henrico service area and make sure every walk gets the attention it deserves, without rushing from neighborhood to neighborhood on a hard schedule.

We walk in rain, heat, and cold as long as it’s safe for the dog. If weather poses a serious risk (lightning, high heat advisory, code red air quality), we stay for the full booked time but shorten the walk and add indoor enrichment. The only time we cancel from our end is when conditions make it genuinely unsafe to drive to your home, like an ice storm. On those rare days, the cancellation fee is waived.

Cancel before 5pm the day before your walk and there’s no charge. Cancel after 5pm, or same-day, and the full walk price applies. That includes same-day cancellations for rain or cold weather, since our team already has the walk on their schedule. If severe weather like an ice storm makes it unsafe for our team to reach you, we handle cancellations case by case. We take payment after service, not before, which keeps things flexible on your end.

No. We charge by time, not by the number of dogs. If your household has two dogs and they need a longer visit to get the care they both deserve, we simply book a longer walk at the same per-minute rate. No hidden fees, no per-dog surcharges.
